For your dinner, we compiled a list of restaurant suggestions and bars.

Travel information

By plane

The closest international airports are Frankfurt/Main (FRA), Berlin Schönefeld (SXF), Berlin Tegel (TXL), Nuremberg (NUE), and Munich (MUC) which serve destinations all over the world. From some destinations, you will find direct flights to the regional airport Leizig/Halle (LEJ). (Non-direct intra-European flights to Leipzig/Halle with intermediate stop in Germany are usually expensive and the total duration of the trip is not shorter than taking a train from Frankfurt airport, for instance.)

From the airport, follow the instructions given in the section "By train". If you prefer to rent a car at the airport, follow the instructions in the section "By car".

By train

This is probably the most comfortable and convenient option to reach Jena for participants from Germany and central Europe (including Paris, Brussels, ...). Significant discounts on ticket prices are available when you book early enough.

Tickets can be bought online with credit card on the website of the state-owned railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB). (The tickets bought on this website are also valid for regional trains that are run by other train companies.) Choose the generic destination "JENA". (Participants traveling East-West will arrive at the station "Jena West", participants traveling North-South arrive at "Jena Paradies", both in walking distance to the city center.) The last trains arrive between midnight and 1:00 in the morning, the earliest trains leave between 4:00 and 5:00.

If you come from one of the airports, choose as starting point of your train trip "Frankfurt(M)Flughafen", "Berlin-Schönefeld Flughafen", "Berlin Flughafen Tegel", "München Flughafen Terminal", or "Leipzig/Halle Flughafen" respectively.

At the airport in Nuremberg, you need to take subway line U2 from "Flughafen" to "Nürnberg Hbf" (Nuremberg central station) where you can get a train. The subway ride takes 12 min. Single tickets can be bought at ticket machines for 3.20 €. The schedule can be found here. More details are available on the website of the public transport service of Nuremberg.

The official mobile phone app "DB Navigator" of the train company is quite useful. It informs you about schedules, delays (more or less in realtime), ticket prices etc. You can load online tickets in the app or directly purchase tickets within the app.
